Solar Energy Conservation
Solar Energy Conservation is important for humans to be proactive about energy conservation. Energy conservation has become a popular idea with good reason. At the rate humans use fossil fuels, soon all deposits will be depleted. Energy conservation causes the use of the fossil fuel to decrease, leaving some for future use. Additionally, the conversion of fossil fuel to energy causes a significant amount of waste in the form of air polluting chemicals. Energy conservation helps combat the adverse effects of the fossil fuel.
Energy conservation occurs on multiple fronts. In the home, average people maximize energy conservation by using energy efficient appliances and light bulbs. Energy conservation takes a conscious effort on the part of citizens. Remembering to turn off lights when they are not in use and employing timed thermostats for home climate control are a few ways to promote energy conservation. As a country, the United States incentivizes energy conservation by offering tax breaks to homeowners who insulate their houses or opt for alternative methods of powering them. Globally, carbon emissions limits on corporations entice energy conservation to decrease the amount of waste made by processes.
Solar Power as a Sustainable Energy
It is imperative that man look for new, sustainable sources of energy. One very important alternative energy source is solar energy. Because the sun is not expected to stop producing energy for many millions of years and because man has figured a way to harvest the energy from the sun and convert it to usable energy, solar energy is a viable option for replacing or greatly reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Solar energy would be considered a sustainable form of energy.
California Energy Conservation Pledge
In the United States, California is one state leading the way in energy conservation and alternative energy use. Los Angeles (LA), California has made a commitment to eliminate its dependence on oil for the production of electricity by 2020. The LA Department of Power and Water has also pledged to reduce energy usage by 1% per year until 2020. This is to be achieved through energy conservation by proactively maximizing efficient use of energy. In 2011 LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced that LA met is goal of increasing alternative energy usage to 20% of its overall energy consumption. Because LA is the largest city-owned utility company in the country, this step is very important. If LA manages to successfully improve its energy conservation and provide alternative energy, there will be an example for more cities to follow.
Energy Conservation
Energy conservation is an important issue for the modern world. Ineffective use of fossil fuels like oil, coal and natural gas add unnecessarily to the contamination of the world's water and air, endangering not only humans but the other living organisms on the planet. Additionally, the limited availability of fossil fuels makes them an unrealistic long-term source of power. If more cities take the stance that LA has and aggressively pursue energy conservation there will be less polluting chemicals in the world's water supplies and the air.
